Our Technology

Individual areas of expertise can’t in isolation provide the answer to marine electrification, and key to WEBBCo’s success is the integration of design and technology disciplines at the highest level. It is the unique way we bring all areas together for each project that enables us to offer ferry operators innovative solutions to zero emission marine transportation.

Design

Through WEBBCo, ferry operators have access to the most operationally efficient design approaches in the evolving area of electrification, as we bring smart ideas and leading edge developments to our projects . Our design team’s experience spans workboats, sailing superyachts and luxury powerboats, America’s Cup yachts, amphibious vehicles and more. We look at each project individually to develop the best design fit, and ensure all areas of performance are considered, including speed, range, comfort and functionality.

Materials

Composite materials really are the only choice for high performance electric ferries, where mass plays such a critical role. The WEBBCo team is experienced in a wide range of composite construction technologies, successfully working with whatever materials and methods are specified by the engineers for each project. Composites offer additional benefits including reduced maintenance costs and longer in-service life.

Manufacturing

Manufacturing efficiencies must be a consideration throughout the design and build phases, and our structural engineering and production teams have this in mind every step of the way.

We have a team of passionate and experienced composite builders and project managers on site who are dedicated to efficiency, build quality and continuous improvement, a philosophy which is driven by our senior management but permeates the whole team.

Electrical Engineering

As with the hull design and layout, the electrical system is designed with each ferry’s specific requirements in mind. Bringing regulation compliant electric propulsion to a commercial marine environment is no mean feat, but our team has done it, and has shown that it offers significant advantages for high performance passenger ferries, such as savings on energy bills and a longer operational time without maintenance.

Safety

As a ferry operator, safety of your passengers is the bottom line. And WEBBCo builds ferries in accordance with local and global standards for the commercial operation of electric ferries.
